Special Collections Appraisal
ValuePros has a team of Document and Manuscript appraisers that travel to perform onsite examinations of collections to identify, appraise, and produce independent appraisal reports that meet the highest professional standards. A Collection is widely understood as “A body of archival material formed by or around a person, family group, corporate body, or subject either from a common source as a natural product of activity of function or gathered purposefully and artificially without regard to original provenance.” (Society of American Archivists)

USPAP, IRS Compliant Appraisal Reports
The most frequent use of an independent appraisal report produced by the ValuePros Special Collection appraisal team is for Charitable Donation. We produce a USPAP compliant appraisal report which means the appraisal procedure and presentation of the report is compliant with IRS standards for itemizing a tax deduction for the contribution of the collection to a charitable organization (Education Institution, Museum, Library, etc.). The required signed IRS 8283 form is delivered with the detailed report.
Because collections are often cataloged (identified) by the owner or receiving Donee entity, many special collection appraisal assignments are completed remotely from the detailed inventory information provided to the appraisal team. If the collection is not organized and inventoried, our team of appraisers/examiners go onsite to efficiently and methodically identify the value characteristics of the collection to produce a report that few in the country can substantiate.
